Good To Know

Boron is a microelement; dry plant contains approximately 20 mg of boron per every kg. This element participates in the process of cell wall building as well as in cell division. Boron is necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates. Boron is an immobile element. Plants need a regular access to boron for their successful growth. This element is absorbed by plants in the form of ions H2BO3(-), BO3(3-), B4O7(2-). The most common source of boron is boric acid (H3BO3). The line between boron deficiency and its excess is very fine, therefore it is relatively easy to overdose boron. Concentration of more than 0.5 mg/l can be already toxic for some plants. What makes dosing of boron even more difficult is the fact that for some plants a certain level of boron would be ideal while for others the same level may be toxic.

Boron deficiency

Symptoms: decrease of growth, decay of shoots’ and roots’ growing points, decay of the main growing point. Although the leaves may retain their size, there is general dwarfing of the whole plant noticeable.
